Global activation for the next generation: Gen Z with OS Studios

We were approached to help global gaming and esports agency OS Studios supercharge their online presence. With a requirement to use auto-play videos across the site, the challenge was to design and build a solution that was visually impactful, but also super fast worldwide, all whilst minimising CO2 emissions.

Project Overview

Auto-play video in its nature is usually the antithesis of website sustainability. We took that as a challenge however and explored a design language that blends the strong OS brand, with masked videos that are strategically sized and placed. You still get the powerful visual impact, but the videos themselves can be sized and compressed to minimise the impact on speed and carbon emissions. The other challenge was ensuring the site is fast for a global audience. This only amplifies the importance of keeping the site lightweight, ensuring the site loads in a heartbeat for users worldwide. Whilst the site only scores a B on the Website Sustainability Rating System, that’s still cleaner than 70% of websites tested whilst delivering a high-visual-impact, multimedia experience.
